On Saturday, July 9, 2011 from 10am to 4pm the Mill at Anselma will hold its annual Colonial Ice Cream Festival on the Mill grounds.
The day features a historic ice cream making demonstration by visitor favorite Susan Plaisted, who begins at 10 am with a block of ice and a bowl of fruit and demonstrates the many steps involved in creating this signature sweet summer treat. This program is very hands-on, and visitor participation (and tastings) are encouraged.
For visitors with more modern tastes, scoops of ice cream from Chester Springs Creamery will be available to purchase on site. The historic Mill at Anselma will be running throughout the day, and tours of the mill village will begin every 15 minutes.
The Mill at Anselma (c. 1747) served its local agricultural community for three centuries and is considered the most complete example of a Colonial-era custom grist mill in the United States. Now restored and recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Mill at Anselma provides a powerful educational resource, allowing visitors to experience Chester County’s industrial and agricultural past through flour milling demonstrations, tours of the site and hands-on family activities.
Admission to the Mill at Anselma for the milling and ice cream-making demonstration is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (60+), and $3 for children 4-17. Under 4, Members and Military FREE! The Mill runs continuously throughout the day. The Mill at Anselma is located at 1730 Conestoga Road (Rt. 401), ½ mile west of Rt. 113 in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania.
