Cakes and Candies by Maryellen Celebrates One Year Anniversary

It was just a year ago that, steps away from the hustle and bustle of West Chester Pike, a pretty-in-pink sign reading “Cakes and Candies by Maryellen” debuted.

With the help of family and friends, the proprietor Maryellen Bowers turned an empty shell at 1332 West Chester Pike into a pleasantly chic cafe and bake shop – which officially opened to the public on March 5, 2011. If you have yet to visit (what are you waiting for?!) the eye-catching shop is a sweets’ lovers’ paradise, decorated in warm browns (which makes her “think of chocolate”), inviting pinks (her favorite color), drool-worthy dessert photographs taken by photographer Allison Benford, and most importantly, lined with endless amounts of mouth-watering baked goods.

Of course, reaching your one year mark is a fine time to celebrate, and Baker Maryellen is pulling out all the stops for her on-site celebration taking shape on Saturday, March 3, 2012! Score $1 specials on all of our favorites, from whoopie pies and mini cupcakes, to chocolate-covered strawberries and pastries. Also, her beloved CakePops are on special, too – buy six and get six for FREE!

And, in honor of the One Year Anniversary, Bowers is also teaming up with the Hamels Foundation to sponsor a balloon pop. The Hamels Foundation supports inner-city schools in the U.S. and has donated some of the largest public school grants in Philadelphia.
