There are many reasons to attend the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival on September 8th and 9th. Each festival goer typically has their own personal motive for making the trip downtown, short or long, and even Gourmet Live thinks the trek is worth it! Many attendees are fond of tasting their way through various mushroom dishes at this annual two-day fungi celebration and one of the most delicious tasting experiences you’ll find is at the 2012 Soup & Wine Event.
While there are many celebrity and big time gourmet chef appearances not to be missed, the Soup & Wine Event is a friendly competition that puts you in the judging seat. Numerous local restaurants will gather on Sunday, September 9th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Special Events Tent to compete for the title of Best Mushroom Soup in the Brandywine Valley. Wineries will also be on the chopping block that day, near Willow and East State Street, as guests critique their pourings to find a Best Red Wine and Best White Wine of the year.
Everyone who attends may taste all of the soups and vote for their favorite for just $10. It’s a conveniently delicious way to sample many area restaurants who are proud to be a part of the Kennett Square mushroom community. Event guests who choose to participate in the wine tastings for an additional $5 ($15 for soup & wine) will get tickets for 5 of the wines and may vote for their personal favorites. All votes are tallied up at the event’s end and a 2012 champion is announced!
Palette’s Lounge and Restaurant (Doubletree Inn) of Wilmington, DE took home first place last year and will be returning in 2012 to defend their title. The executive chef, Jackie Losito, is a Kennett Square native and definitely has something special up her chef coat sleeve in this battle to prove victorious once again!
Wineries tentatively scheduled to participate include Black Walnut Winery, Chaddsford Winery, Flickerwood, Paradocx Vineyard and Twin Brook Winery. Paradocx took home Best White and Chaddsford’s offering was the most popular among Red Wines for the day. Will they return again this year to fight their way to the top? You’ll have to attend for delicious confirmation!
Don’t miss this special event nestled inside the big picture that is the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival. It’s always a good time and they need your help to find the best of the best!
