Pennsylvania Dutch Festival Comes To Reading Terminal Market, Aug. 9–11

Reading Terminal Market is prepared to reveal the Dutch side of Pennsylvania starting today, August 9th, and continuing through the weekend. Those interested in learning, listening and…who are we kidding, EATING the best that Pennsylvania Dutch culture has to offer should visit the world famous market on Filbert Street. The three-day festival will take place in the Market’s Center Court seating area from 8 to 5 p.m.

This will be the 23rd Annual Dutch Festival at the Reading Terminal Market and should be better than ever! The event, co-sponsored by Center City District, will feature many handmade crafts items like quilts, hand braided rugs, wooden toys and more. Some of the traditional food attendees are likely to get a sample of such culinary treats such as sausage sandwiches, pot roast, hot ham sandwiches and funnel cakes. There will be many “true to Dutch form” home made items like ice cream, fudge peanut butter, and root beer. You might even fancy a taste of fresh squeezed lemonade, shoofly pie, chicken pot pie, Chow Chow and jams. It wouldn’t hurt to take some home and share or save seconds for yourself!

In celebration of the lovely summer weather and to create a country fair in the city, the festival will move outdoors Saturday, August 11th on Arch Street. If you’ve always wanted to experience an Amish buggy ride or horse drawn wagon ride, they will be available for quick trips around the Market. A farm animal petting zoo, plus country and bluegrass musical groups will round out the entertainment for the day.

Discounted parking is available at the Hilton Hotel garage at 11th & Arch Streets and the Parkway Garage at 12th & Filbert Streets for $4.

The Dutch Festival is a day in Philadelphia unlike any other but you’ll have to attend for a true taste of the culture. All are WILKUM so round up the crew and head on over!
