Coming Soon to Manayunk: The Goat’s Beard

Manayunk-ians should be prepping for a new industrial-meets-rustic watering hole to open at 4201 Main St. where Main Street Bar & Grill previously resided. Even before that incarnation, Thomas’ was a well known pit-stop filling the space, though neither of those former establishments boasted a whiskey bar and bold American cooking. The Goat’s Beard plans to open as soon as March 11.

Sean Coyle, who founded Bourbon Blue, is the brains behind this new Manayunk project and pulled the name, not from a furry animal, but from the native Pennsylvania plant Aruncus. Guests will most likely be concerned about the cuisine and drink options instead of the inspiration behind the new spot’s name, but for now Chef Dan Connelly, who once owned Northern Liberties’ Copper Bistro, has chosen to reveal only that ingredients will be locally obtained whenever possible and there will be several gluten-free options.
