Get Your Very Own ‘Personal Trainer in a Box’ with Philly’s City Fit Kit

These days you can have just about anything delivered to your door—makeup, diapers, even Christmas trees! So why not a personal trainer?

Kiera Smalls (pictured below) and Takia McClendon, co-founders of the Philly-based exercise group City Fit Girls, have done just that with their brand-new monthly subscription service City Fit Kit.

Each kit will include a unique monthly fitness calendar, recipes, an exclusive workout, superfood ingredients and other handcrafted health items including artisan soaps and herbal teas.

I recently attended the City Fit Kit launch party at Real Food Works (224 North Juniper St., Philadelphia) to speak with Kiera and Takia about their new venture.

“Kiera found that people were really interested in her fitness journey—she’s lost 100 pounds to date,” Takia revealed. “So we started at the beginning of this year by hosting bi-weekly free workouts at the Art Museum steps.”

The girls, who admit they aren’t the most avid bloggers due to their schedules, wanted to find an accessible way to reach out to busy students, athletes, working professionals, moms and entrepreneurs with diet and exercise tips.

Takia was inspired by another subscription service, Turntable Kitchen, which pairs a record with a recipe each month. She quickly found that most health subscription boxes provided samples, but lacked any sort of fitness routine or schedule.

“We thought, ‘What if we did something more like, a personal trainer in a box?’” Takia said. “And then we just went from there.”

The individualized workouts will provide subscribers with a fun, healthy activity located at a famous Philadelphia site, including the Art Museum and Rittenhouse Square.

Takia believes the City Fit Kit makes the perfect Holiday gift because it’s fun, but will also encourage subscribers to stick to their New Year’s resolutions.

She said, “We did some research…by week three most people quit their New Year’s resolutions. We’re sending you a calendar with four weeks. So why not do it all?”

I’ll be testing out the very first City Fit Kit later this month, so stay tuned for my experience with the products!
