Back on February 17, Irish whiskey expert Tim Herlihy set off on a 30-day, 50-state Irish pub tour to seek out the best Irish pubs, the characters that drink at them and the most interesting places across America to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. When he stops by Philadelphia this week, he’ll be exactly halfway through his tour and will have already traveled to 35 states!

On Tuesday, March 1, Tim will be at McGillin’s Olde Ale House from 7–10 p.m., and at 8 p.m. he will be hosting a tasting and discussion on how Irish pubs took over the world. From their beginnings in Ireland as rural grocers and grogs to the Victorian bars of Dublin and Belfast, the Irish pub has evolved from country pubs that doubled as undertakers to being exported to every corner of the world. Join Herlihy to hear stories of how the Irish pub grew to become the world’s favorite watering hole, what makes an authentic Irish pub, the future of Irish bars and more.
