Each year, Kennett Square offers a bevy of family-friendly activities on New Year’s Eve during its Midnight in the Square celebration, including the always memorable Mushroom Drop, when a 500-pound stainless steel, brilliantly lit mushroom is lowered from the sky at midnight.
The evening’s excitement begins at 6 p.m. on December 31 and will continue until early the next morning. Whether you are an early-to-bed type or a night owl, you’ll be able to find something to help you ring in 2017. A few of the highlights of the 2016 Midnight in the Square include:
- 6 p.m.: Entertainment, food and activities available for the entire family, especially the kids! Food vendors currently scheduled to appear include KaboBurritos, M&M BBQ, Nomadic Pies and State Street Pizza.
- 7–8 p.m.: Raising of the Mushroom, the perfect opportunity for younger children to see the mushroom in action if they won’t be awake at midnight
- 9 p.m.–12:30 a.m.: The Garage provides an indoor venue for food, beer and wine with a $10 cover. The Funsters will play live music outside of The Garage during this time.
