Restaurant Closing: Aussie and the Fox in Downtown Lancaster

Aussie and the Fox, best known for its brunch and killer cocktails, will close later this month after a five-year run in downtown Lancaster.

Aussie and the Fox is owned by Frank Fox, his grandaughter Julia Morrell and her husband, Colin Morrell. Colin is the Aussie, and of course, Frank is the Fox.

When asked about the closing news, Julia said, “We were approached last year and asked if we were willing to sell. Although it was not something we were thinking about at the time, we feel good about the decision. After five years of business, we have accomplished all we have come to do and are excited to create something new. It has been an honor to be a part of this community for the last five years and we have been extremely blessed to be so well received and supported. We will miss our customers and our family of staff immensely. Our last service will be brunch on the 14th of April. We highly recommend reservations up until that time.”

The offer for Aussie and the Fox comes from Proper Food Group, which intends to buy the furnishings and equipment, as well as the liquor license from Aussie and the Fox.

Proper Food Group plans to utilize the space for a modern eatery called Max’s. And though plans are already in the works, the opening of Max’s depends on a new lease for the space, which hasn’t yet been finalized.

According to its website, Max’s is “Designed to bring back the lunch counter style of everyday food from your family and childhood favorites with a modern refresh and nod to Lancaster’s unique tastes. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar service 7 days a week, Max’s is the ultimate ‘go to’!”

The sale also includes the takeout window, which currently houses Buzz, owned and operated by Michael Sirianni. Michael says his business will remain open but in a different capacity. We’re still waiting on what that exactly means, but we’re excited nonetheless.

As we await more info on plans for Max’s, stop into Aussie and the Fox between now and April 14, and bid the Aussie and the Fox and its entire staff a fine farewell.
