On Tuesday, March 6, Harrisburg will be getting its own axe-throwing bar with the introduction of Generation Axe at Joe K’s Brewhouse in Harrisburg, thanks to the efforts of Kamionka Entertainment Group.
Axe throwing … and alcohol? You betcha’! This form of entertainment is not a new concept, but certainly new to the Harrisburg area, and it’s bound to garner quite a lot of interest once individuals 21+ give it a try. Generation Axe at Joe K’s Brewhouse will feature six interior axe-throwing lanes, with another 12 outdoor lanes to be added in the spring.
“We bring big city trends to a smaller market, and axe-throwing is one of the hottest concepts going,” said Ron Kamionka, President of Kamionka Entertainment Group, which owns Joe K’s Brewhouse.
Though it may sound dangerous, axe-throwing bars are a soaring trend throughout the country, originating in Canada. Axe-throwing bars are currently in operation in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and outside of Baltimore. Many describe the activity as similar to darts, but more fun! And, you’ll be happy to know that it’s surprisingly safe, especially in a monitored atmosphere.
Guests are invited to take part in this on their own, or in a group, such as with corporate outings for stress relief and as a team-building activity.
At Generation Axe, there will be onsite “Axe-perts” to provide axe-throwing tutorials and etiquette, as well as to supervise play.
“Safety is our number-one concern,” Kamionka said.
In addition to individual access to the axe-throwing fun, there will be leagues and tournaments forming in the spring. Reservations will also be taken for groups and corporate events.
Kamionka also states that, in addition to trained staff, other safety restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of customers, such as the fact that players must be 21 years of age or older, and visibly intoxicated individuals and anyone with a preexisting neck, back, leg, or arm injury will be prohibited from participating. Additionally, no open-toed shoes or heels are permitted in the throwing lanes.
