New Tröegs Scratch Series IPA Benefits Hospitality Workers

As surely you’ve read about, the hospitality industry — from vacation resorts to mom-and-pop restaurants — are severely hurting during the COVID-19 crisis. Across the industry, people and brands are banding together to help, and one of the newest local initiatives comes from a partnership between Hershey, PA-based Tröegs Independent Brewing and the Hospitality Assistance Response of Pennsylvania (HARP). On Thursday, April 30, Tröegs will release a new IPA through its Scratch Series that will help provide immediate emergency assistance to Pennsylvania’s hospitality industry by donating 100% of the proceeds to HARP.

HARP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that’s funded by private, community, and individual donations. Its mission is to provide swift financial assistance to front-line employees of Pennsylvania hospitality businesses.

“Industry employees are experiencing significant hardships due to the abrupt closure of their restaurants and hotels in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said John Longstreet, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association. “The situation is dire for the hospitality community in Pennsylvania and across the nation, and we’re thankful for the support of Tröegs in this time of crisis.”

“We hope to raise $10,000 through sales of this new beer,” said Chris Trogner, co-founding brother of Tröegs. “With the help of HARP, the funds will directly benefit essential service-industry workers during these times of unforeseen hardship.”

Scratch Series #413 is a soft and hazy IPA that is generously hopped with Citra, Simcoe and Galaxy, an Australian hop variety. A fruity yeast strain helps to amplify the hops’ notes of ripe pineapple and tropical gummy candy, with hints of grapefruit and orange zest. Pale malt and unmalted wheat help to balance the beer, and malted oats create a silky texture and a smooth finish. This IPA, which weighs in at 7.2% ABV and is only available in 16-ounce cans, can be purchased exclusively through Tröegs To-Go curbside service.

To order this brew, order online and then, starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, you can stop by the brewery for contactless curbside pickup. Other Tröegs items available for pick-up include year-round and seasonal beers, as well as a to-go food menu featuring dishes from the brewery’s Tasting Room.
