This warm, crispy plate of fries uses turnips instead of potatoes for a lower calorie, lower carb alternative that have a naturally peppery flavor and lots of vitamin C, calcium and fiber for all-around goodness.
They’re ready to enjoy in about a half hour and make a great anytime snack. Serve them with ketchup or a mayonnaise- or yogurt-based dipping sauce.

Ingredients
- 1 pound turnips, peeled and cut into 1⁄2-inch sticks
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder or onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley, optional, for garnish
Method
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Toss turnip sticks with olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper until evenly coated.
- Spread turnips in a single layer onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with Parmesan cheese.
- Bake, turning halfway through, until fries are golden-brown, tender and crispy, about 20-25 minutes.
- Garnish with parsley and serve.
