Help Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen’s Mission to Reduce Straw Use

The co-owner of Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen, Lee Mikles, took a big step this past summer by instituting a straw-by-request-only initiative.

Mikles, co-owner of Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen in Newark and sister restaurants in Bear, Delaware and Kennett Square, wants to help reduce the use of straws—and ultimately extensive landfill additions—by having his restaurant teams only provide straws to patrons upon request. It’s an easy way to help the environment, and most dining guests are happy to lend a hand in this regard as well. Mikles has even approximated that by taking this step, the result will be one million less straws headed to the landfill each year as a result of all three Grain locations participating in this initiative.

Those who would like straws with their beverages can certainly request and receive one when dining at Grain. This sans-straw plan is simply an idea as to how we can all help to preserve the environment and reduce the addition of these items to landfills.
