The Kennett Square Farmers’ Market is hosting the Third Annual Fermentation Festival this Friday October 7th, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Come out and learn about the “live” method of preserving the summer’s bounty of meats, dairy and produce. The festival will feature sales of Hard Cider and Fruit Wine by Frecon Farms, cured meats by Maiale Deli & Salumeria, artisan cheeses, pickles, saurkraut and dilly beans, in addition to a “Fermentation Salon” at the center of the market, across from the Genesis HealthCare entranceway. Attendees will also see a live cheesemaking demonstration by Kate Stroh, Cheesemaker at Red Haven Creamery, and can hear a talk called, “Salami 101,” by William Rawstrom, owner of Maiale, on the “Ins and Outs of Curing Meats.” The Festival will also feature saurkraut demonstrations by David Siller, of Philly’s Cobblestone Krautery, and our special guest, Marisa McClellan, of the stellar food blog, Food in Jars. Local chef, Jason Ziglar, of Once Upon the Palate, will demonstrate cooking preparations with Art in the Age’s Root Liquor, and representatives from Art in the Age will be at market offering samples of their line of spirits, Snap, Root, and their latest, Rhuby. The festivities will also include a curated display of local artists, where they will feature handmade jewelry and original prints, and live music by Tim Mudgett. In addition, we are pleased to herald the arrival of the finest Jamaican Food by Irie Blue Mountain Coffee.
The event will be held in the usual Farmers’ Market location, along the brick pathway adjacent to Genesis HealthCare, and the sidewalk of State St. Between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m, hop on over across the street to Talula’s Table, and cozy up to a vat of bubbling Rhuby Fondue, while sampling Art in the Age’s line of artisanal, Certified Organic spirits, alongside the finest in local cheeses, for the latest in Talula’s “Cheese Chicks” Happy Hours.
