Baby C Farm, Now Part of Kennett Square Farmers Market

Baby C Farm, a small producer of heirloom vegetable, melon and herb plant starts based in East Fallowfield Township, is a newcomer to this season’s Kennett Square Farmers Market.

As Kennett Square’s Farmer’s Market’s blog noted, “If you’ve been to the market this season, you couldn’t have missed the smiles and gurglings of the Layton family’s newest production, baby Connor. Following his birth, they became truly conscious of the benefits of local and natural foods. Gardening started out as just a hobby and then turned into a passion.”

Soon, the family fell in love with garden fresh vegetables, in particular with heirloom varieties including tomatoes, peppers, peas, beans, eggplants and lettuces. Baby C Farm now has 34 different heirloom starter plants and all of their plants are grown in a controlled environment in organic soil and are pesticide-free. What’s even better is that three of their plant starts, Tennis Ball lettuce, Grandpa Admire lettuce and Cherokee Purple tomatoes, are on the Slow Food USA‘s Ark of Taste list.

Also, Amanda Layton additionally creates hand-knit garments, size infant through adult, including hats, scarves, neck warmers and mittens. Many of their products can also be purchased on their BabyCFarm website.
