Learn the Culinary Craft of Aimee Olexy at Philadelphia Art Museum

The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Craft Spoken Here exhibit showcases some forty contemporary works from 1960 to the present in ceramic, glass, metal, wood, lacquer, paper, and fiber. The exhibit, which starts May 5th, represents the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe. The works highlight formal qualities that cross cultures, time, and media.

You might be surprised to hear that to keep in theme with Craft Spoken Here’s popular array of engaging educational programs and interpretive materials, one of your favorite local restaurant’s, Talula’s Table, is getting involved. Aimee Olexy, owner of the world-renowned farm to table restaurant in Kennett Square and partner at STARR Restaurants’ Talula’s Garden on Washington Square, will visit the Perelman Building for an on-site artist demonstration, Hostess Crafting, this Saturday, July 14 from 3 to 5p.m.

A natural hostess, Olexy is used to creating perfect atmospheres, setting the mood and configuring a particular ambience at her restaurant and events. If you’ve ever wondered how she does it or just longed to create a magnificent table-scape of your own, then this demonstration is where you want to be! Olexy will show guests how to take advantage of this season’s abundance of vegetables and transform them into an inviting table environment.

She’ll also explore ways to whip up the best hostess gifts, turning inexpensive, repurposed items into new, chic gifts. The givings won’t only impress your guests, they will focus on lowering your carbon footprint at the same time.

Epicureans and fledgling foodies alike will love Olexy’s light-hearted approach to entertaining. Children are welcome at this family-friendly event as well. It’s fun for all ages! As a bonus, each guest will receive three tea sandwiches, a lavender lemonade with prosecco and blueberries, and a hostess gift. Tickets are just $40 and members receive 10% off.
