A new multi-concept dining establishment, SOMO SoPhi, is headed to South Philadelphia this spring, thanks to the combined efforts of NFL All-Pro Offensive Guard and Philly native Jahri Evans and his wife Takia, along with designer-turned-restaurateur James Morrissey.
The expansive city chic multi-level restaurant, bar, lounge and nightlife concept will be located at 3101 South 13th Street near the stadium complexes. SOMO SoPhi will be a sister restaurant to Morrissey’s SOMO Manayunk.
“It will be a lavish hot spot to dine, drink, chill and rub elbows with the city’s movers and shakers,” states Morrissey.
The property will span more than 5,000 square feet and will include three levels and two outdoor dining and lounge spaces. The first floor will be a replica of SOMO Manyaunk, located at 4311 Main Street, only larger – about 1,960-square feet – with an eco-chic feel. That area will seat 50 and consist of a relaxed-vibe casual restaurant/bar with televisions that will air live local or major sporting events. The menu will be similar to SOMO Manayunk, which is a New American bistro offering elevated appetizers, sandwiches and entrees. Also on the ground floor, there will be a lounge and large al fresco cafe, which will provide additional seating during warmer months.
SOMO SoPhi’s second floor will exude a sexy eco-chic dining/lounge feel, seating up to 100 guests, and the 2,000–square-foot space will include a dining room, an open chef’s kitchen, cocktail bar and a covered outdoor terrace. There will be a strong focus on premium spirits, wine and bubbles. The wine and champagne selections will be stocked from all over the world, but will feature offerings from ONEHOPE Winery in the Napa Valley, the Evanses’ charitable partnership with ONEHOPE Winery Founder Jake Kloberdanz.
The 1,200-square foot third floor is slated to be what the partners call “the ultimate chef’s table,” — a private event dining space with a boutique whiskey bar and private chef’s kitchen where guests can request customized menus for their soirees or cocktail parties. Guests will have the opportunity to create a custom menu after a consultation with the chef, but some of the Evanses and Morrissey’s favorite dishes will also be available.
“Philadelphia is our home,” said Takia, a Temple, Drexel and University of Miami alum who grew up in West Philadelphia. “We’re really excited to open SOMO SoPhi this spring. And we’re thrilled to announce this partnership with James Morrissey!”
