Coming This Summer to Eagleville: Bald Birds Brewing Co.

The good brewery news just keeps coming! We recently got some details about Bald Birds Brewing Co., a brand new craft brewery, opening in Eagleville this summer.

Husband and wife team Abby and Joe Feerrar, who both work in the corporate world (consulting and banking, respectively), have been searching for “something we could have as our own,” as Abby puts it. After plenty of brainstorming, the South Philly-based couple decided on opening a brewery. The plan has been in the works for the past year and a half and is finally about to come to fruition — fingers crossed, they are slated to open this June!

After a few false starts location-hunting, they found a location in Eagleville, which Abby says has been, “a great place … the township and people have been so welcoming.” Along the way, they had a few properties in other towns fall through, but she says she believes that all happened for a reason, “because this proved to be the best location!”

The location is a 7,500-square foot warehouse in an industrial park that will be split pretty evenly between production and a taproom. The Feerrars have hired Patrick Thomas, a brewer with a decade of experience; his resume includes Oscar Blues and Evil Genius. He’ll start Bald Birds’ program with an approachable lineup of IPAs, lagers and pilsners, and move on to more experimental stuff once the core brands have been established. They’re currently assembling a team of managers and bartenders to help run tours and keep the front of house running smoothly. In place of an on-site kitchen, a rotating cast of food trucks will visit during taproom hours to provide beer-friendly food to guests.

The aesthetic of the taproom will be “rustic industrial,” Abby says, with plenty of metal, raw rood and reclaimed palette wood and wooden spools. Once open, Bald Birds hopes to host plenty of community and charity events, movie nights (“brewvies,” as Abby calls them) and Eagles and Penn State football viewing parties. The space will be available for private rentals on Mondays and Tuesdays when the taproom will normally be closed.

The story of the company’s name is really cute: Joe is bald (the logo is based on him), and Abby has alopecia, and also lost all her hair a few years ago. “We’re this team of bald people and wanted to figure out how to work that into our branding,” Abby laughs. Then, during the brainstorming phase of the brewery, a robin built a nest in their front door. “So, every day we got to watch these baby birds hatch, grow up and fly away, so it just kind of evolved from there!” she says.

Bald Birds Brewing’s website is still under construction, but keep an eye on its Facebook page for more info, coming soon!

Bald Birds Brewing Co. will be located at 970 Rittenhouse Rd., Suite 400 in Eagleville.
