Bluebird Distilling Pivots to Making Hand Sanitizer

Bluebird Distilling, an award-winning grain-to-glass craft distillery in Phoenixville, PA, is taking drastic measures in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis. It is pivoting from making boozy products, like its American Wheat Whiskey and vodka (all still available online), to solely producing ethanol-based hand sanitizer to support the community during this time when this product is in high demand and is pretty difficult to find.

Following the recipe recommended by the World Health Organization, Bluebird Distilling is pausing its craft spirit production in order to mass-produce hand sanitizer to help address the nationwide shortage. The Bluebird Distilling hand sanitizer will be distributed at cost to hospitals, doctors’ offices and other at-risk communities and facilities in the Phoenixville and Greater Philadelphia area.

“This decision was easy, we’re not selling the hand sanitizer for economic profit, we’re just looking to cover the costs of making it so we can support our community,” said Jared Adkins, Bluebird Distilling Founder and Master Distiller. “We’re proud to be supporting our medical professionals and those in the front lines during this time of crisis.”

Any high-risk institutions in the area that need hand sanitizer, like hospitals, homeless shelters, senior citizen centers, paramedics, and fire stations should reach out to [email protected] for possible distribution. The hand sanitizer will not be sold to the general public, only provided to local hospitals, doctors’ offices and other at-risk communities.

Bluebird Distilling has three locations: 100 Bridge St. in Phoenixville; phone: (610) 933-7827; 1625 Chestnut St. in Philadelphia; and 111 S. Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
