First Look: Bacon Me Crazy in Phoenixville

When restaurateur Wes Reeser was dreaming up his new café, he knew it had to appeal to the people in the town of Phoenixville and beyond. So, he decided to focus on a food group he and many others hold a particular passion for: Bacon. Reeser is no stranger to this porky delight; he was a co-owner of the now-shuttered restaurant, The Bacon Press, in Frazer, Pa. For his second go-round, he wanted this spot to encompass several things — a café, a lounge and a market — and be all bacon, all the time.

After many months of preparation and excitement in the community about its debut, Bacon Me Crazy opened for business at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31.

The menu includes a full range of breakfast specialties, including veggie and bacon omelettes, French toast, pancakes, Nutella Belgian waffles and more, all of which involve bacon, in some form or another. Lunch specialties include burgers, sandwiches, salads and a host of sides.

But, our bet for the soon-to-be fan favorites are the comfort-food inspired bites that take it a step farther with … you guessed it, bacon! Think: Bacon-topped cinnamon rolls, bacon pastries, candied bacon, pancake-battered bacon, bacon-wrapped mozzarella sticks, and bacon and blue cheese fries.

Pancake-battered bacon!

That’s not to say there’s no room for vegetarians — veggie and gluten-free options are available. But really, this place is for the bacon-lover who needs to go above and beyond their bacon dreams. The bacon at Bacon Me Crazy is not like what you find at the supermarket — all of its pork products are sourced from family farms where the animals are ethically raised without growth promoters and they’re fed a vegetarian diet. There are no nitrates, no antibiotics and all of the bacon is smoked on site for a uniquely delicious taste.

In the interior, there are seating areas: a café serving breakfast, lunch and brunch from 7 a.m.–3 p.m.; the lounge, with comfy couches, Wi-Fi and whimsical décor is open 7 a.m–6 p.m.; and the market is open 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Where you hang out all depends on your mood and whether you wish to grab a quick bite, take bacon pastries to go, or while away some time in the bacon lounge.

Fun dishes await in the café, like biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, or the Flying Saucer that includes a saucer of egg atop hash potatoes and strips of bacon, with caramelized cheddar. The breakfast entrees include fresh farm ingredients and delicious cheeses that pair perfectly with the excellent coffee. For lunch, the bacon cheesesteak, burgers, sandwiches, sides and salads will satisfy the hungriest of appetites.
