Order Up: Golden Milk Chicken at Horse Inn

In our new column, “Order Up,” we find the tastiest things to eat and drink in Greater Philadelphia and Central Pennsylvania, and we pass the deliciousness on to you!

One of our top picks for dining out in Lancaster, Horse Inn consistently knocks it out of the park with creative cocktails and a food menu that’s updated frequently to stay in tune with the seasons. In addition to must-order classics like the Horse Fries, Korean fried cauliflower and Horse Inn’s beloved cheeseburger, new and intriguing specials often appear, and one recently caught our eye: Golden Milk Chicken. We’re familiar with golden milk lattes, the trendy turmeric and coconut milk beverages popping up at coffee shops and cafes, but this was the first golden milk-based savory dish that we’ve come across.

It’s made with free-range Pennsylvania chicken, carrots, celeriac, potatoes, coconut milk, turmeric, ginger, black pepper and ras el hanout, a North African spice blend that includes coriander, cumin, cinnamon and ginger and other spices. We love the beautiful, rich color of the dish, and the balanced mix of protein, root veggies, spices and herbs. It seems like the perfect supper to usher in hints of spring, while still providing enough comfort for the fact that it very much still feels like winter outside.

Co-owner Starla Russell says that Golden Milk Chicken will be on the menu “for a minute,” so don’t delay in trying it out before the menu switches over for springtime!
