New Restaurant Report: Week of Aug. 25–31

Do you have restaurant news from your community to share? Hit us up!

What better way to close out August than with restaurant news from around our great state? We’ve searched high and low across Pennsylvania to find out what’s new and exciting. Here’s what we’ve discovered:

Erie

The Cork 1794, part of the same restaurant group as Skunk & Goat Tavern and Molly Brannigan’s Irish Pub, is slated to open this November in West Erie Plaza. Relocating from its previous location in North East, the 250-seat restaurant and bar (with seating outside for 80) is poised to wow diners with unique design features, such as a ceiling that resembles a deconstructed wine barrel. 1000 W. Erie Plaza Dr., Erie.

Ephrata

Griddle & Grind Cafe, a creperie and coffee shop, is set to open any day now in downtown Ephrata in the former Sheldon’s Art Gallery space. Sweet and savory crepes, high-quality coffee, a freshly renovated interior and a lovely outdoor patio are what’s in store. Follow along on Facebook as the crew gets closer to its grand opening (date TBD). 20 W. Main St., Ephrata.

Harrisburg

Knead Pizza, Harrisburg’s much-applauded hearth-fired pizza joint inside the Broad Street Market, is on a roll. After opening a second location inside Zeroday Brewing Company earlier this month, it has announced a slice shop in Midtown, in the former Mercado’s Pizza storefront. After some renovations, it will reopen, serving both Sicilian-style and thin-crust New York-style slices and whole pies, as well as beer, thanks to a liquor license transferred from Mercado’s. 937 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg.

Dave & Busters, the popular national chain of hybrid arcades/sports bars has been working on its newest Pennsylvania location, for a few months now, in the former Old Navy space (right next to the J.C. Penney) in the Capital City Mall. It appears that the work is wrapping up, and an opening date of Monday, October 22, has been announced. 3506 Capital City Mall Dr., Camp Hill.

Kennett Square

It’s just been announced that a bakery, cafe and juicery will be opening in Cannery Row in Kennett in early 2019. Evergreen will bring all sorts of delicious treats to the area, including super-loaded cakes, like a three-layer version with brownie, cheesecake and cookie cake, all hidden inside a cookie dough shell. Savory bites, like cheddar Old Bay biscuits with eggs, will be on offer, as well. South Mill Rd. and West Cypress St., Kennett Square.

Philadelphia

Stock, the popular noodle shop in Fisthown, has opened a second location in Rittenhouse Square. Thursday (August 30) was its first day in business, serving customizable cold noodles, salads, soups, banh mi sandwiches and snacks. Highlights include the Burmese Crunch Salad with Napa cabbage, kaffir lime dressing, all kinds of tasty crunchy bits and the Good Deal soup, which can be made with chicken or vegetable broth. Meatless options, like soy ginger tofu, abound. 1935 Chestnut St., Philadelphia; (215) 988-9480.

York

A new coffee shop, Cupajoe, is open for business in Downtown York’s WeCo neighborhood (in the location that was once the New Grounds Roasting Co.), and will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m., Friday, September 7. Owner Tracy Asah started her business plan in 2008, two years after she and her family moved to York. Though her original vision was a drive-through shop, she realized, while serving jury duty at the York County Courthouse in 2014, that the area was in desperate need of a community-centric cafe. The space features an open seating area with comfortable chairs, a fireplace, piano, and local art on the walls. A local focus extends behind the bar, as well, with baked goods from the Red Brick Bakery & Tea Room in Red Lion and from Perrydell Farm. A grand opening is slated for Monday, October 1. 284 W. Market St., York; (717) 430-4678.
