Strawberries + fresh basil: We love this combo in cocktails, salads and desserts. So, we decided to try it in on one of our favorite sammies, a golden-crusted, gooey grilled cheese. Multi-grain bread, two kinds of PA cheese (shredded, to help with quick and even melting and maximum stretch), local strawberries and basil, and a drizzle of balsamic all come together beautifully to make a seasonally inspired recipe that we’re excited to share with you!
The quality of the strawberries is key to the success of this sandwich – you want them sweet and silky to cut through the melted cheese, almost like jam. Seriously, don’t skimp on these; check out your local farmers market instead of the supermarket. For the basil, pluck some from the backyard, or try some hydroponic basil from a PA grower like Bux-Mont Hydroponics in Telford or Sun Aqua Farms in Dalton.
